WP7 Root Tools 0.7 for MANGO

With this tool you get root-access to parts of your WP7 device. This version contains a registry-editor, a file-explorer with basic file-operations and a certificate-installer with write-access to the certificate-stores.

This tool is in alpha stage. That means that it is not feature complete and it is not yet properly tested. This tool also provides you with high privileges with which you can alter low level settings and data on this device. All this may result in unexpected and undesired behavior, which may ultimately damage your device. Use this tool with care and use it at your own risk. The developer of this tool cannot be hold responsible for any kind of damages, caused directly or indirectly by using this tool.

The current version of this tool can only be used on Samsung devices. A small part of the code uses Samsung-specific functionality. The performance of the tool may sometimes be slow. This is the result of the way access to the system is elevated. The next version of WP7 Root Tools will run on more devices, like HTC and LG. Also the access is elevated more directly.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you get error 0x81030120 when you deploy WP7 Root Tools to your device, then please read this guide!

GUIDE INTEROP-UNLOCK for MANGO - No revert to NoDo - No 0x81030120 (Samsung/LG)

In Mango there is a new type of lock: INTEROP-LOCK

This means that, even if you have a legit dev-unlock (or ChevronWP7 Labs unlock when they go live), you still can't side-load apps with native code. Many homebrew apps use native code for hacks and tweaks. These apps need the ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES capability to run native code. For example WP7 Root Tools needs this capability to run. But when your device is INTEROP-LOCKED it will show error 0x81030120 when you try to deploy it to your device.

Contable and Marvin_S did research on it and found that the registry setting MaxUnsignedApp is responsible for the INTEROP-LOCK. I did more research and I identified the code that is responsible for this check. In fact, if you have the MaxUnsignedApp value set to 300 or higher, your interop will be unlocked. The value of MaxUnsignedApp is determined by the type of developer-unlock you have. A normal AppHub account will have it set to 10 and a student account will have it set to 3. So a value of 300 or higher is not a realistic value for a normal developer account. It is probably only set to this value for Microsoft employees and OEM developers.

Until now, the only way to do an INTEROP-UNLOCK for MANGO meant that you have to downgrade to NoDo first, then prepare your device by loading provxml files to your device, upgrade to MANGO and then use OEM tools to execute the provxml files and do the necessary unlocks. But that is a lot of work and for some devices not even possible, because there are simply no ROM's available.

So I wanted to allow people with MANGO shipped on their device and using a legit developer unlock, to use WP7 Root Tools and other MANGO-compatible homebrew apps.

I have developed a method to do this. I have a Samsung Omnia 7 and it works on my device. It should also work on Samsung Focus. ATLien68 brought to my attention that it is also possible for LG devices to do an Interop Unlock on Mango. So I created a guide for LG too.

ZTE Blade - FREE SIM unlock codes for Orange San Francisco and ZTE Blade

Update: my own calculator app (runs on the phone itself -- for people worried about IMEI security), or my own web calculator hosted here:

http://arrtoo.x10.mx/unlockBlade.php

I got my unlock code from NckCodes, but it looks like this site works FOR FREE!!!!

http://www.nextgenserver.com/calculator/

Put your IMEI in, select ZTE, leave the default model as ZTE BLUEBELT, pop in the not-a-robot code. In the box above the IMEI you'll receive your code. Gave me the same code as Nckcodes sent me.

Some further instructions so you don't have to look elsewhere (and see also Paul's video below):
  1. Use the dialler and enter this to see your IMEI: *#06# (don't press Call!).
  2. Get your unlock code from the site above.
  3. Double-check you used the correct IMEI number -- it's free to retry!
  4. Turn off your phone.
  5. Open the back.
  6. Remove the battery.
  7. Remove the (Orange?) SIM card.
  8. Insert a SIM card from a different operator.
  9. Replace battery.
  10. Replace back.
  11. Turn on phone.
  12. (If prompted, enter any personal [4-digit?] PIN number that you may have set on the new SIM.)
  13. Now you should be prompted to enter the 8-digit unlock code ("SIM network unlock PIN"). Do it carefully!
This free code calculator is also available at their parent site:

Samsung i7500 - Custom ROM is here (rooted with custom Kernel with swap/netfilter + more!)

Note: This ROM is no longer being updated.

I'm pleased to present my MoDaCo Custom ROM for the Samsung i7500!

This ROM is based on the Samsung XXII5 release, the latest at the time of writing, together with my own optimisations for the best possible performance! I have tried to keep the ROM as 'stock' feeling as possible.

My key motivation for creating this ROM was firstly to enable root but secondly to provide a custom kernel with swap support, due to the limited RAM on the Galaxy.

Features

- Rooted with 'adb remount' permission and superuser APK
- Custom kernel based on Samsung source with swap enabled (install 'swapper' from the market, I recommend a SD swap partition), netfilter enabled (working on wifi tether fix), cramfs + squashfs and much much more
- Latest build of busybox included with relevant links, also other utils such as sqlite and parted in ROM.
- Added terminfo and settings to boot.img
- Added JBed Java
- Removed files wasting space in system directory

Motorola Droid X Battery life tips (30% after 40 hrs unplugged)

I received my droid X on launch and been loving it. but battery life was not as amazing as I had read. I would unplug at 5 in the morning when i got up for work, and would need the juice by the time i got home at 7. while this basically worked for me i would have liked more battery life so i did some research and messed with some settings. now i dont need to charge every day if i dont want to.

1. set the power management to battery saver. all this does is shut down the 3G radio if it is unused for 30 mins.

2. on power management also set screen to minimum default brightness, no auto. do this in both the battery saver screen and the regular display setting, dont know why it mattered but it did.

3. I brought up the droid power widget and turned off auto sync. just manually sync your contacts, calendar and email, saves alot of life.

4. lastly i gave up live wallpaper.

these four things and i have more than doubled my battery life, and you can too. cheers!

DROID X Android 2.2 Lock Screen

If you were unable to grab Android 2.2 for the Droid X before Motorola starting harassing websites, then you have missed out on the new lock screen that comes with it (pictured above). While this isn’t a big change, it does come off as slightly more appealing than the original grey version and can be pushed to your
2.1 DX now if you’d like.

*Note 1*
– This is for ROOTED 2.1 Droid X owners only.
*Note 2*
– This will mess with your framework-res file which can be dangerous and possibly leave you at a standing M logo on reboot. You may need to flash an SBF file to recover should something happen.
*Note 3*
– Since you have to be rooted, downloading Koush’s Bootstrap and flashing Clockwork Recovery with a backup before doing this is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Toshiba Notebook Delete Data If Stolen

Jakarta - Recently Toshiba launches hard disk drive (HDD) SATA 7200 RPM. Specialty, the hard disk can erase the data automatically.

Because the encryption using AES-256, HDD is claimed to meet the minimum standards required for use in important organizations, such as other government agencies.

Reported by TG Daily and quoted on Friday (14/04/2011), HDD encryption implemented in hardware level, thereby reducing the possibility of compatibility issues and make the process virtually unnoticed by end users.

For example, users do not have to do it manually considering encryption process is run automatically during the operation read / write routine. Because the encryption feature fully integrated, distribution of safe and fast HDD claimed.

Interestingly, if the HDD is physically unplugged from the host computer and put the wrong kind of password, disk terpoteksi can be programmed to restrict access. This option can be done to remove some data that are considered important or execute them.

HDD also allows secure remote management using tools such as AMT (Active Management Technology) from Intel. Available capacity of 640GB, 500GB, 320GB, 250GB and 160 GB.

Motorola Droid X Just a bump of performance gain for your X

Some have noticed that all your history remains in "Contacts" if you swipe left. It seemed to be fixed with the leaked 2.2, you delete elsewhere and it does leave the phone BUT if you have things from 2.1 still in there there is an option to delete history. Go to contacts>swipe left>settings>clear history. I cannot confirm that this option is on 2.1, I didn't check when I had it. But hopefully this helps some people, I know when I delete something, I want it off the phone.

But anyway to my Title, when I did this I noticed an increase in performance, at least navigating through the phones functions, placebo, possibly but it can't hurt - unless there is truly some history you still want around.

Hope this helps some folks

How to 100% CPU Usage, Poor Performance, Poor Battery Life Motorola Droid X

Greetings! I searched this forum for a similar issue, but I don't think any of them compare to what I was experiencing. Sorry for the long post, I am writing this in case anyone has a similar problem, and hopefully this solution will work for you.

My X recently (within the last week) started having extremely poor battery performance under the same usage conditions as the previous week (K-9 syncs every 15 min, maybe 2 texts per hour, 2-3 emails per hour, maybe 5 total minutes of phone use). After 4 hours, the battery would be at 20-30%

To make matters worse, most functions were extremely slow to respond (contact loading, test message loading, recent calls, bookmarks, any scrolling was choppy, etc.) The delay when trying the most basic things (opening the browser, making a call) was getting unbearable.

Find your phone motorola droid x without having any tracking software installed!

Lost your phone and do not have any tracking software installed on it (ie Lookout, Seekdroid, etc)?

1. Install Plan B to the phone that you are trying to find from the Android Market website:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb.
2. Plan B will start automatically and send your phone’s location to your Gmail address.
3. If it doesn’t start, borrow a friend’s phone and text the word “locate” to your lost phone.

Change router channel to 7 for better wifi strength Motorola Droid X

updated the routers(Linksys WRG54GS) and changed the channel to 7. Wow. Instantly I was hitting 12-15mbps! I had lived for 2 years with that 3mbps bandwidth just assuming that was as good as it was going to get. I felt like an idiot for not checking it sooner, yet happy at the same time. Now I know what having 4G must feel like, at my house at least.
